CITY HOPPING ON A BUDGET an Interview with Andy Steves

I recently interviewed Andy Steves (the son of Rick Steves, the American low budget – off-the-beaten track – cultural travel guru) for the American online magazine Transitions Abroad.

Andy is the author of a new guide to Europe’s great capitals, targeted for students and generation Z professionals –Andy Steve’s Europe City-Hopping on a Budget.  He is also the founder of a new student travel/tour agency, WSA .

In our interview, Andy recounts how  he got the idea for both his company and his book while spending a year in Rome. Friends and classmates would follow him wherever he went on improvised tours, knowing he could help them find “their way in” to a more authentic travel experience.  The career of this young entrepreneur and travel writer  shows how a passion for travel can become a successful profession.

In our interview, we also discuss student travel in the era of apps and global alerts.  Andy gives some good tips on exploring places for the first time, useful travel gear, as well as on how to stay safe  while enjoying night life wherever you are.  You can read it  @  Transitions Abroad.

Linda – thank you for this post for two reasons. First, for a useful update on what travel writers are doing and also for our tourism management undergraduates who are exploring business ideas in our industry.
